From 11 November 2024, the Lithuanian Customs service will strengthen on the Lithuanian border the customs controls of goods belonging to the high-risk group, whose export is declared from the countries of the European Union.
In this way, the Lithuanian customs authorities continue their initiatives in order to prevent the goods supply chain to the aggressor countries.
Therefore, when implementing international sanctions against Russia, physical controls of dual-use goods will be carried out at the border posts of Belarus. The said goods can be used in the battlefield or for the production of objects used for war purposes. Particular attention will be paid to the exports of electronic goods, such as chips, microcircuits and other electronic components. Goods subject to exemptions under the sanctions regulation, such as medical-diagnostic equipment, exports of various mechanisms, parts thereof and similar goods, will also be subject to stricter controls.
The Lithuanian customs office, which is located on the border with Russia and Belarus, has to control all export procedures being completed by the EU Member States. Therefore, the Lithuanian customs officers have to evaluate all risks and check exports cleared by all EU Member States. The flow of goods exported by other EU Member States accounts for about 90 percent of all goods transported across the Lithuanian border.
