#EU2027LT: Lithuanian Customs Strengthens Cooperation with Irish and Greek Customs Administrations Ahead of EU Council Presidency
On 19 March, the Lithuanian Customs hosted the second meeting of the Ireland-Lithuania-Greece Trio in preparation for the upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU.
Mr. Vygantas Paigozinas, Acting Director General, met with Ms. Ruth Kennedy, Director General of Customs and Revenue Commissioner, Ireland, and Mr. Dimitrios Bourikos, Director General of Customs and Excise Duties, Greece. During the meeting, the partes discussed current issues related to preparations for assuming the Presidency of the Council of the EU, the priorities of the Presidency Trio, the implementation of the EU Customs Union reform, and the challenges that lie ahead of the customs administrations of EU Member States.
Future chairs of the EU Council working groups in the field of customs from Lithuania, Ireland, and Greece, along with members of the presidency teams, reviewed key legislative initiatives and further cooperation to ensure the smooth functioning of the Presidency Trio. Ireland, the first member of the Presidency Trio, will begin its six‑month Presidency of the EU Council on 1 July 2026.
As part of the visit, the guests were introduced to the work of the Customs Criminal Service, where they were presented with Lithuania’s modernized customs risk‑management processes and the application of artificial intelligence for faster and more efficient inspection of goods transported by rail.
The meeting concluded with a tour of the Customs Museum exhibition.
