Implementation of Mandatory Electronic Pre-Arrival Notifications for Transit Processes at the Austrian–Swiss Border Starting January 1, 2026 Starting from January 1, 2026, transport operators crossing the Austrian–Swiss border will be required to submit electronic pre-arrival notifications for all transit procedures via the IT system “Smart Border Austria.”
To improve the border crossing process at the border crossings between Austria and Switzerland, the Austrian Customs Administration, in accordance with Article 184(e) UCC-DA and Section III.I.2 (“Communication between the Office of Transit and the External Domain”) of the Design Document for National Transit Applications (DDNTA), has decided to implement mandatory electronic pre-arrival notifications for transit processes at the Offices of Transit as from the beginning of the year 2026.
This means that, as of January 1, 2026, these electronic pre-arrival notifications regarding transit at the Offices of Transit must be submitted via the IT application “Smart Border Austria” (current name: Zoll Korridorverkehr Vorarlberg) prior to the arrival at the customs office of transit. If this regulation is not fulfilled the means of transport will be rejected by the customs office of transit.
