International Customs Day – Focus on Vigilance and Commitment

January 26 marks International Customs Day, celebrated by 187 countries around the world united under the World Customs Organization. Lithuania joined the World Customs Organization in 1992.

To commemorate the occasion, a ceremonial event was held at the Customs Department. Officers and employees of Lithuanian Customs were addressed remotely by Ian Saunders, Secretary General of the World Customs Organization, who announced the 2026 customs theme: “Customs Protecting Society through Vigilance and Commitment.”

On the occasion of International Customs Day, Vygantas Paigozinas, Deputy Director General of the Customs Department, acting as Director General, presented WCO Certificates of Merit to employees of Lithuanian Customs and other institutions for their impeccable and exemplary performance of official duties and for their contributions to Lithuanian Customs.

The event also honored the memory of Michel Danet, long-serving Secretary General of the World Customs Organization, who is laid to rest at Kairėnai Cemetery in Vilnius, in recognition of his support and contribution to Lithuanian Customs.

The celebration was warmly enriched by a performance from the children of the kindergarten “Giliukas”, creating a festive and heartfelt atmosphere.

We thank everyone for their unity, professionalism, and daily responsible work in protecting society.
