Lithuanian customs and police officers participate in international training Lithuanian customs and police officers participate in international training
50 Lithuanian customs and police officers participated in the World Customs Organisation (WCO) training course "Identification and Detection of Explosive Precursors and their Components" on 15-17 May and 20-22 May.
The aim of this training was to strengthen the capacity of Customs and Police officers to effectively combat the global IED threat by providing them with in-depth knowledge of explosive precursors and components of IEDs, risk assessment, detection methods and devices.
It provided participants with knowledge on the labelling, handling and detection of explosive precursor chemicals, as well as training on risk assessment, the development of appropriate risk profiles and investigative procedures, and the improvement of inter-agency cooperation.
This training is part of the WCO's Global Shield programme against improvised explosive devices, funded by the US State Department and the European Commission. The WCO Regional Intelligence Liaison Office for Eastern and Central Europe (RILO ECE), the US Defence Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and the Lithuanian Customs Service have also contributed to the training.
We thank the WCO and DTRA experts for the useful training and the opportunity for Lithuanian customs and police officers to participate in the WCO Global Shield initiative, which is making a significant contribution to combating the use of improvised explosive devices worldwide.
